Pilgrim Club receive £7,000 for
bike 'Swap Shop'

"We wouldn't be where we are today without County Durham Foundation. Thanks to you the club and the children have flourished."
The Pilgrim Club was founded by ex-army commando John Cutting, who spent much of his life after the army travelling the world, often in very challanging environments, picking up vital survival and bushcraft skills along the way.
John has used these experiences and skills to form the basis of The Pilgrim Club, an innovative educational adventure club based in Sedgefield, which aims to develop the self-esteem of disadvantaged young people in the area.
The Pilgrim Club gives young people aged 9 to 25 years old the opportunity to improve their confidence, communication skills, teamworking skills, problem solving and leadership qualities whilst at the same time encouraging them to gain a better understanding and respect for the environment and countryside. This is achieved by providing opportunities for young people to learn bushcraft skills and enjoy outdoor adventure activities and challanges, including climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking and learning bushcraft skills.
There
are over 50 club members of various ages that meet on a regular basis to enjoy
the organised activities. The group is recognised as a Duke of Edinburgh’s
Award Access organisation for their skills and expeditions work.
Since 2003 the Pilgrim Club has received over £40,000, which has paid for various activities including a trip to take disavantaged young people camping, a 7-day educational activity course at the High Force Centre and an army youth team camp at Ullswater.
During one of these activity breaks the children built a large and very remarkable wooden raft complete with sails (which actually floats!).
"The Pilgrm Club is class, I think everyone should join!"
Helen, aged 12.
