Ferryhill Town Youth

"This grant has meant that every team has its own football kit and the kids feel proud to wear them. The under 15's team have a kit with County Durham Foundation on it. The equipment we bought has been great for improved training sessions and without the grant we would not have been able to cater for as many youngsters. The club has a great family atmosphere where the older kids look out for the younger ones. When we received the grant we had about 90 kids now we have about 150. Many of the youngsters want to go on to coaching and refereeing."

Children from the Ferryhill Town Youth group The group was established in September 1991.  The village of Ferryhill and surrounding areas have many low-income families with few facilities to offer its children and young people.  The group aims to promote exercise, fitness and team participation and to develop their social skills, fair play and discipline by the way of football, for boys and girls aged between 7 to 18 years old.  The club is run solely with the help of qualified coaches who give their time free of charge.

We gave a grant of £5,000 to pay for equipment and football strips for the growing football teams.

The club has recently been awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Award (Unsung Heros), and as part of the award the children voted unanimously to celebrate their success by wearing the Queens Crown Crest and Union Flag on their football strips.
