700 Club PlaqueDarlington Night Stop

Darlington Nightstop have been a registered charity since 1994. They provide a resource to young people between the ages of 16 to 25 in Darlington and the surrounding area who are homeless and in need of emergency accommodation. The young people are temporarily housed with volunteer hosts on an overnight basis providing them with clean, safe accommodation, and a warm meal. The charity help on average over 140 young people every year, however only about 50% end up staying overnight with a host.

Caroline Litster, Management Officer for the EMMA Project, helping to build a babies cot Nightstop were given £1,000 to cover one year of volunteer host expenses to enable the group to continue providing emergency support to homeless young people. As a result they were able to house homeless 16-25 year olds and support them in a family environment, as well finding permanent accommodation for some of the youngsters.

Darlington Nightstop uses an imaginative way to help and combat the problem of young homeless people in the Darlington area. The charity relies upon the goodwill of people in the local community to help these young people who have no priority under current homeless legislation and would probably find themselves sleeping rough.
