Guided tour at Alnwick GardensConsett Men's Forum

Consett Men's Forum provides a friendly, social and educational facility for unemployed and elderly men within the Derwentside area. The forum hosts weekly meetings, practical training courses and presentations from interesting local speakers, whilst also organising regular days away.

The group received a grant of £400 from the I'Anson Family Fund for their elderly members to visit Alnwick Castle and Gardens.

This grant enabled 53 pensioners to enjoy an active day away in Northumberland. The trip was a big social event, which offered those attending the chance to get out and about with their peers and socialise. There was a guided tour of the gardens which was very informative about garden design and plants. This gave the group some ideas to take back to their own gardens.

Walking around the fountain at Alnwick GardensWhen the group arrived they had morning coffee and then an introductory talk by the Garden director. Afterwards they were split into four groups and given a one hour guided tour of the grounds.

"The majority of members are retired and for many the grant was the only way they could afford to take part in this visit. We would like to offer our many thanks to County Durham Foundation."
