Margaret Georgiou

Vassos and Margaret Georgiou

Margaret received a grant of £1,062 from the John T Shuttleworth Memorial Fund. The fund gives grants to ill, elderly or disabled individuals and their carers in Tees Valley who are in need of respite care following hospitalisation, bereavement or because of dependency treatment. Margaret has Crohn's disease and is carer for her husband Vassos who has Parkinson's, angina and arthritis. The grant enabled Margaret and Vassos to visit and spend a relaxing time with their family in Cyprus.

As they went over Easter, Vassos who is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church for whom Easter is the most important festival on their calendar, was able to take part in their ceremonies and celebrations with his whole family. Seeing his family again in the beneficial climate of Cyprus gave Vassos a new lease of life and his arthritis improved to such an extent that he was able to go for walks, while at home he usually needs a wheelchair.

Margaret told Vassos' family how they managed to come to Cyprus and they asked for her to send their thanks and mention that the happy time they enjoyed will stay with them forever.

'Vas and I would like to thank everybody who gave us both the chance to have a holiday. Vas seeing his family was so special to both him and me. My heartfelt thanks not only from Vas and my family but his family in Cyprus. God bless you all '.
