Set up in 1982, Chester-le-Street Pre-School Group provides education and play facilities for pre-school children in a safe and friendly environment. They offer a wide range of equipment and activities for children aged between 2-5 years old. Sessions which take place five mornings and two afternoons every week.

The group received a grant of £4,606 from County Durham Foundation to purchase some much needed equipment. As the income from the group’s weekly fees covered only salary and room hire they needed some additional help to fund the purchase of new resources. With our help they were able to buy art and craft materials, an alphabet learning frame, dressing up outfits, puppets, dolls house, teaching clock and role play kitchen amongst many other things.
With
some parental assistance, the children helped to pick out the toys they liked
and are pictured using. The group were also able to purchase some furniture
including book storage, chairs, tables and a lockable cupboard, all of which
contribute towards them meeting the requirements for OFSTED regulations and
the national curriculum. Joanne Simpson, playgroup leader commented;
"The equipment has helped the group to increase the range of activities that they offer to the children and there are currently around thirty families benefiting from the facility."
"Thank you so much for the grant, the children have been able to participate in so many more activities with the new equipment and we now have enough paint to last about ten years!"
It is hoped that the new equipment and toys will help to not only maintain the existing facilities for the children to enjoy, but will allow for expansion in the future.
