Amy Draper

Amy is 16 years old and lives in Chester-le-Street. She attends the Hermitage School Sixth Form where she studies A’ Level Performing Arts, English Language, Literature and Art. Amy received a grant of £300 which enabled her to attend a two-week drama course and residential in London with the National Youth Theatre (NYT).

Movement presentation at National Youth Theatre. She excels in dance and drama and is nearing the end of a two-year advanced training programme at Newcastle’s Dance City where she was one of 35 students who were selected out of 2,000 auditionees to gain a place on the National Youth Theatre course. Previously a member of the Gala theatre stage school, Amy had to leave as her parents could only afford to pay for one course.

Despite having to give up her membership at the Gala which gave her more opportunities to take part in performances and attend auditions, Amy was still achieving against the odds, taking part in local productions and numerous successful auditions.

The NYT residential included drama workshops and resulted in the students taking part in a live performance during the day in the middle of Trafalgar Square. The experience has helped Amy to decide that acting is definitely the course she wants to take in life and that a drama school in London is where she wants to continue her acting training. Attending this residential has opened a new door and now that Amy is a member of the National Youth Theatre it will also give her the opportunity to be considered for acting jobs through NYT.

"First of all I both want and need to say thank you so much for helping me get to National Youth Theatre. I can honestly say NYT has been the biggest life changing experience and I owe so much to you!"

"The NYT show took place in Trafalgar square on the 10th of September which also happened to be the day of my 17th Birthday. I officially had the best birthday of my life. How many people can say that on their 17th birthday they performed in Trafalgar Square?

"This summer was the first time I had been to London and I have fallen in love with the city. I know for definite that this is the place I want to be for drama school after completing my A’ Levels. Rosie my best friend from NYT who lives in London even came to stay with me for this half term holiday. These people mean the world to me and you were a big part of how I came to meet them. I have not only learnt an incredible amount from my directors and peers but I found myself, I found my confidence, I found where I belong and I found the one place where It felt like not a single piece of the jigsaw was missing.

"Thank you again!"
