Aldin Grange Junior Coarse Anglers

Aldin Grange Junior Anglers, based near Bearpark, is a unique group that was created to provide children and young people with the opportunity to have fun and make friends while taking part in coarse angling. The group currently has 25 members, all of whom are from rural areas that suffer from restricted social activities.

The young anglers in action!

The anglers encourage children as young as 5-years-old to participate in their activities. As well as learning new skills and the virtues of patience, members are taught how to behave safely and ethically when taking part in angling and when handling the fish. They also learn how they can contribute to protecting and improving the surrounding environments.

One parent commented:
"My wife and I bring our children down here as often as we can - they love fishing and it's one of the only times we get to spend the day together as a family."

The group are based on Aldin Grange Fishery in Bearpark. This ward is ranked within the top 10 – 20% most deprived nationally. To ensure that the group is open and accessible to all, members are provided with full fishing equipment free of charge. This means everyone can afford to go along and give it a try, even if they've never fished before.

All sessions attended by the young people are led by qualified National Fishing Association coaches.

Aldin Grange Junior Coarse Anglers received £740 to pay for core costs and essential equipment including all weather clothing, fishing rods and storage boxes.

"The money we've received paid for some equipment, which has made it possible for even more children to enjoy the fun!" Roger Parkin, Treasurer.
