Groundwork West Durham received funding from County Durham Foundation towards an free environmental awareness day called 'Action Packed Futures day' which they held in the grounds of Whitworth Hall, Sedgefield.
The group brought in ‘Weapons of Sound’, a large musical group that performs using natural waste products to demonstrate that such items can be used creatively.

The event also had environmental awareness stalls and theatre acts to raise
environmental awareness and particularly promote recycling in the local community.
Other attractions included an environmental magician and interactive
workshops on environmental topics including recycling and composting household
waste. Everyone who attended took away leaflets about how they can contribute
to improving the environment and the Community groups involved in the delivery
were able to network and share ideas.

Three thousand people took part in delivering the different activities during the event and over 7000 people attended. Members of the community were also able to take advantage of a free bus which ran in all districts throughout County Durham taking people to and from the event.
