As
of the beginning of December, we launched a new brand image and name –
County Durham Community Foundation - which we feel will be
more representative of our beliefs and values.
The new branding is the result of feedback from stakeholder workshops held earlier in the year to gather informed opinions of how people perceive our brand. The inclusion of the word ‘Community’ in our new name reflects the increasing growth of the Community Foundation movement across the UK and globally and our desire to align ourselves closer to this with a title which is also more reflective of what we do.
We are also giving our website a makeover. The new address will be www.cdcf.org.uk, but please continue to use our current website where you will find all the information you need about our work helping communities in County Durham & Darlington grow. In addition all our of email addresses have changed to name@cdcf.org.uk, however once again our old address will continue to function for a while.
Foundation chairman Mark I’Anson said,
“2010 will be our 15th Anniversary year and in this time
we have managed to give out over £15 million in grants to local community
groups and individuals. The launch of our new branding, which is much more
reflective of what we do, marks the beginning of a new era for the Foundation
and I have no doubt that the next 15 years will be even more successful for
us and the County.”
The new branding was launched at a recent event, during which trustees and
staff gathered together with fund holders, members and other supporters to
toast the ‘new look’ and all that has been achieved over the past
year.
The evening was very kindly sponsored and co-hosted by Darlington-based Chartered
Accountants and Business Advisers, Clive Owen & Co LLP.
Tony Luckett, Partner at Clive Owen & Co LLP said: "We
were pleased to be able to support the County Durham Community Foundation
in celebrating their 15th anniversary year. The foundation has done some fantastic
work in the community over this time and we are proud to be their business
advisers. We all enjoyed a wonderful festive evening and it was great to meet
the people who have set up the community funds which make County Durham Community
Foundation so successful.”

Two members of Darlington & District Social Club for the
Blind and Visually Impaired recently met with Government Ministers at a Parliamentary
Reception to celebrate all they have achieved in the local community with
support from the Government’s £130m Grassroots Grants programme.
Since Grassroots Grants launched in September last year, County Durham Foundation
has awarded over 100 grants to a wide range of community groups in County
Durham and Darlington like Darlington & District Social Club for the Blind
and Visually Impaired.
Through Grassroots Grants, County Durham Foundation was awarded £885,343
to distribute grants of £250 to £5,000 to local community groups
until March 2011.
Darlington & District Social Club for the Blind and Partially Sighted
offers a vital service for the blind and visually impaired in Darlington by
providing them a place to meet and enjoy leisure and sporting activities in
a safe, accessible environment. The group organise numerous activities and
events throughout the year all designed to prevent the isolation of blind
people living in Darlington and the surrounding area. The group also aims
to make greater use of the collective voice for their members to try and remove
the barriers (both physical and social) faced by disabled people in Darlington.
