West Durham Wind Farm Community Benefits Fund

Maximum Grant: £5,000 (exceptions up to £30,000 may be considered)

Area of benefit:

Priority will be given to applications from the following areas:

1. The villages of Cornsay, Cornsay Colliery, Hamsteels , East Hedleyhope, Satley
2. The surrounding areas in Derwentside if benefiting the areas above
3. The wider community within a 10-mile radius of the site, if in direct benefit to the residents of the above areas.

What we will fund:

The following types of activity and projects will be funded:

• Priority will be given to capital items with a tangible, lasting benefit, including improvements to community buildings (NB: running costs and revenue funding will only be considered in exceptional cases).
• Biodiversity and habitat conservation.
• Energy conservation and increased use of renewables.

Grant Size

All applications must be within the £100 to £5,000 range, although in exceptional circumstances grants of up to £30,000 may be considered.

Step 1: If you haven't already please read the guidelines above carefully to ensure you are eligible.

Step 2: Please fill out an Expression of Interest Form. You can do this in two ways: by filling in our online form or by downloading a pdf version to fill in and post to us at:

Step 3: Sit back and wait to hear from us. We will look at your Expression of Interest form and if we feel that your project meets the criteria we will then request that you complete a full application. This system will ensure that you do not spend time completing a full and detailed application for a project that may not be supported.
