Hylton House Fund

Financial assistance to individuals with cerebral palsy, their families and carers.

About the fund holder

The fund is supported by Hylton House and Scope Endowment Funds. Hylton House was a residential home for 25 adults with Cerebral Palsy. The home was originally built and funded by Scope in County Durham. When the charity wound up in 2002 Hylton House was sold. The fund was created using proceeds from the sale of Hylton House.

What we will fund

Domestic equipment (e.g. washing machine or dryer) - maximum award £250.
Holidays or respite support for carers of up to two weeks in this country or abroad.
Education, training and therapy.
Training and support for carers and self-help groups (if no statutory/support/provision is available).
Provision of aids and equipment, particularly specialist clothing, communication and mobility aids.
Travel costs for your and your carer to attend a specific activity, specialist centre or hospital if no alternative transport is available.
Respite support to pay for an employed carer in the home or for visiting a specialist centre where care is provided.
Costs of the disabled individual setting up home on their own, (unless this is a SCOPE or Local Authority led move).
Debts, if you can prove that this was incurred by the disability.

You will need to provide a full breakdown of the costs. For specialist equipment and therapy, you must also provide confirmation from your occupational therapist/doctor/physiotherapist or other professional advisor that the equipment is suitable for your needs.

Are you eligible?

You must live in one of the following areas:
County Durham, Darlington, Gateshead, South Shields, Sunderland or Cleveland.

Individuals can hold one grant each financial year starting in April.

You or the family, if you are under 18, must be on income support or a low income or have a degree of disability in the family, which creates a heavy financial demand.

You should have asked Social Services, the Department of Works and Pensions or your doctor for help before you apply to us.
