Patrons and Supporters
Kingsley Smith - Former Chief Executive of Durham County Council
"Christine
was totally devoted to representing her communities and was caring, kind,
thoughtful, hard working, conscientious and always thinking of others.
She was particularly concerned for the most vulnerable in our society
and helping to improve their lives. Christine was admired and respected
by everyone. She constantly strove to improve the quality of life for
the people of Durham and the memorial fund is a fitting tribute to ensure
the continuation of all she stood for"
Brian Walker - County Councillor
"Christine
was a very effective County Councillor who I had the greatest admiration
for, we worked together for over 20 years on a wide range of corporate
Durham County Council duties Education, Social and Health, Fire Authority
and the Learning and Skills Council , we also collaborated on projects
that were funded by O.N.E where Christine was Vice Chairman, Christine’s
whole aim was to improve the Quality of Life for the residents of County
Durham and the wider Northern Region, she has left an indelible mark,
of which I am pleased to have played beside her"
Chris Jobe - Director North East Northern Rock plc
"Christine
had the unconscious knack of enveloping you in the warmth of her personality.
You felt that you ‘belonged’, were wanted – that you
mattered.
I know Christine was delighted when we established
the Northern Rock Foundation with its aim of helping the disadvantaged
in the North East and Cumbria, a cause with which she had great empathy.
We are humbled to be associated with dear Christines memory through the
establishment of this Memorial Fund"
Roberta Blackman-Woods - MP
"Christine was a very hardworking and committed politician who was a superb ambassador for County Durham and the people of Chester-le-Street.
It is with great privilege and a sense of pride that I am a Patron of the Christine Smith Memorial Fund. Everybody who knew and came in contact with Christine recognised her warmth, unfaltering sense of commitment and pride in her work. She was a towering strength and had a real sense of purpose and direction. These qualities as well as her warmth of character will be sadly missed by all of us.
I know
Christine would have wanted the funds and support to go to help raise
local grass roots activities in County Durham and in helping women gain
confidence to achieve their potential. These causes were particularly
close to her heart and it is an honour that I am able to help and be part
of this Fund."
